Jaymz Tuaileva
Age: 20
Hometown:
Orem, UT
Occupation:
Jazz / Hop-Hop / Ballroom Specialist
Jaymz has trained at Center Stage Performing Arts Studio since he was 11 years old.
What is your full name?
Jaymz Tuaileva
Do you have a nickname?
I swear, everyone has their own nickname for me, so I guess it varies.
Where do you currently live?
Orem, Utah
Where were you born?
Provo, Utah
What is your hometown?
Orem, Utah
How old are you?
20
What is your birth date?
February 25, 1986
Do you have a job?
No. I just do shows and get paid for them but not a steady job. So I guess my job is a performer.
How old were you when you started to dance?
11 years old.
Do you have any formal dance training?
Yes. I trained at Center Stage Performing Arts studio in Orem, Utah since I was about 11. Then quit for awhile to play sports in Jr. High and then got back into it when I was a sophomore in High School.
If you had to categorize your dance style, what would it be (hip hop, ballet, tap etc…)?
I hate categorizing. I really couldn’t put myself into a category. I dance so I can breathe and love to dance no matter what type of dance I’m doing. If someone were able to put me into a category, I would love to know what it would be!
What other talents/hobbies do you have?
Snowboarding, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Wakeboarding, Golf, Eating (yes that’s a hobby), Acting, Singing, Guitar, Piano, Music, making people smile (sounds cheesy but it’s a hobby of mine), Movies.
Who is your favorite professional dancer?
Gene Kelly will always be my favorite dancer. He was so masculine and so classy. I wish those days could come back again.
Does anyone in your family dance professionally?
Nope. Almost all the girls in my family have danced but none pursued it to become professional. My dad used to dance at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii when he was younger. I would call that dancing professionally. He used to do a mean fire dance that’s for sure.
Have you performed in musical theater or in public functions as a dancer?
I was Bernardo in West Side Story and participated in other musicals. I also have performed at several public functions.
What would you like to see happen to you as a result of the show?
I would love for this experience to open doors to other opportunities in the performing world whether it be dancing, acting on stage or film, singing, anything to do with performing. I just want the world to be able to see what I love to do and give them a piece of what I’m all about. The $100,000 prize would be amazing as well. My girlfriend was diagnosed with a disease called “Endometriosis” at age 11 and has had 4 surgeries for it already. She’s been battling it for almost 9 years. The surgeries cost around $17,000 each and no insurance company will cover her anymore. If I were to win, I would pay for her surgery so the pain she has could be taken away for a little while. Also, my Grandma is 76 years old and still works so I would want to give her a large amount of the money as well so she wouldn’t have to work for at least a year or so. And maybe this show would also give me the opportunity to get a good enough job so that she would never have to work again.
Where would you like to be in 10 years and what would you like to be doing?
Married to Mekenna (my girlfriend) with a baby on the way, while acting in movies, and performing on Broadway. I know it sounds like a lot to have going on but I would love to be doing that. Hey if Hugh Jackman can do it, why can’t I?
What has been your most memorable dance experience?
Oh wow, there have been so many. I would have to say one of the most memorable would be winning the Gala at NYCDA Nationals with my dance company. That was the last time a lot of us were ever going to dance with each other again so it really meant a lot to me.
